1 Corinthians 14:37 — The Command the Church Ignores
“If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.”

What Paul Actually Commanded
1 Corinthians 14:26 describes a gathering where every member contributes — a psalm, a teaching, a tongue, a revelation, an interpretation. Not one man behind a pulpit while hundreds sit in silence, but the body functioning as a body with every member active.
Paul then gives order to this participation: two or three may speak in tongues with interpretation, two or three prophets may speak while others judge, and if something is revealed to another sitting by, the first must hold his peace. All may prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be comforted.
What the Institution Replaced It With
One man speaks. Everyone else listens. The congregation is an audience. The “worship” is a performance led by a team on a stage. The “sermon” is a monologue — no one judges, no one contributes, no one is permitted to speak. The order of service is predetermined by a bulletin, not by the Holy Spirit.
The one-man pulpit ministry traces not to the apostles but to the Roman system that absorbed Christianity in the fourth century. The clergy-laity divide contradicts the plain text of 1 Corinthians 12:7 — “the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
