Are You Really Saved?

There is a biblical test to determine whether you are truly in Christ.

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” — 2 Corinthians 13:5

Take the test. Are you in Christ?

If you are in Christ, there are a minimum of four things God has done in you.

1. His love has been poured into your heart.
“The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” — Romans 5:5

You would have experienced the love of God made real by the Spirit, subduing your rebellious heart. This results in a total surrender to the love of God — not an idea about love, but love itself overwhelming you.

2. His Spirit bears witness with your spirit.
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” — Romans 8:9
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” — Romans 8:16

Christ by His Spirit comes to live within your heart, giving direct witness to your spirit that you are His child. Just as His love is poured forth, the Spirit confirms to your inner man — not through doctrine, but through encounter — that you belong to Him.

3. The Spirit of His Son cries out from within you.
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” — Galatians 4:6

God sends the Spirit of His Son into your heart crying, “Daddy, Father.” Note that Scripture speaks clearly: God’s Spirit and the Spirit of Christ are the same. This is the inward evidence that God has cleansed you and made you accepted in the Beloved.

4. Your conscience has been purged.
“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” — Hebrews 9:14

Through the blood of Christ applied to your heart, your conscience experiences deliverance from sin. The word conscience means “with knowledge” — con (with), science (knowledge). You have a conscious awareness that your past sin is forgiven. The weight is gone.
